Get it inspected
Before you file. A roofer who knows what an adjuster looks for will tell you whether the damage will hold up as a claim — and save you filing one that will not.
A plain-English walk through the process, from the storm to the final cheque — what carriers actually pay for, what ACV and RCV mean on your settlement, and where claims usually go wrong.
Tell us what happened and when. We come out, document it and tell you honestly whether it is worth a claim.

What is actually covered
This is the single thing most homeowners get wrong. A twenty-five year old roof that is simply worn out is a maintenance expense. A roof damaged on a date you can name is a claim.
The process
Six steps. The one that decides the outcome is the third.
Before you file. A roofer who knows what an adjuster looks for will tell you whether the damage will hold up as a claim — and save you filing one that will not.
The policyholder has to open it. Note the date of the storm, and do it promptly; most policies require prompt notice and some set a hard deadline.
This is the step that decides the claim. Have your roofer on the roof at the same time, so the damage is seen and agreed on site rather than argued from photographs later.
The carrier issues a scope of work and a first payment. Read it against what your roofer says the job actually needs.
If genuinely needed work is missing, it is documented and submitted as a supplement with evidence behind it. This is normal, not a fight.
You pay your deductible, the carrier pays the approved scope, and any held-back depreciation is released once completion paperwork is filed.
ACV vs RCV
An RCV (replacement cost value) policy pays what it costs to replace the roof today, but in two parts — an initial payment, then the withheld depreciation once the work is finished and documented. An ACV (actual cash value) policy pays the depreciated value only, and on an older roof that can be a fraction of the replacement cost. Check which one you have before you count on the number. Either way, the deductible is yours to pay, and any contractor offering to absorb it is committing fraud.
